This is an awesome Bard’s Toronto late 30’s - early 40’s ladies’ house coat / dress or dressing robe. Belted, and with a fun pocket. The back really shows off an awesome chevron pattern from the tailoring of this Viyella tartan fabric from the UK.
The robe is in very good condition, with one abrasion on the lapel (but covered when robe is fastened) and a series of small, old delicate single stitch repairs to the area near the bias cut hem, as can be seen in the photos.
The label on the cuff of the outer sleeve reads:
“Wash as wool—if it shrinks, we replace” British and Guaranteed Maclachlan.
